Hi, I'm Kathleen,
the founder, designer, and skilled artisan behind Artisan Accessories the shop dedicated to handcrafted goods of superior quality and enduring style.
The name Artisan Accessories was chosen because it encompasses the commitment at the heart of my work, to create accessories that are handmade, meticulously crafted with traditional technique's and built to last.
Encompassing the creation of my two signature brands Luna Designs and North Star Hat Co. Paying homage to lost crafts and slow makes in an era of fast fashion.
The Story of Luna Designs
The journey began in 2018, sparked by a simple frustration, the search for beautiful jewellery that wouldn't irritate our maker's sensitive skin. This challenge quickly transformed into a passion, leading her to the world of precious metals.
After years of exploring various creative outlets, including pottery, leathersmithing and whatever else Kathleen could get her hands on; it was always jewellery that drew her back, inspiring her to craft pieces not just for others, but for a personal need for quality and comfort. Kathleen believes jewellery is ' the art of adornment ' and wearable art.
A deeply personal way to express your individual style and effortlessly elevate any look. Every piece you find here is handcrafted using sterling silver and gold, metals chosen for their enduring beauty and hypoallergenic quality.
Our deepest hope is that the pieces Kathleen creates become cherished parts of your story, embodying a timeless elegance that can be worn now and treasured enough to be passed down for generations to come.
The Story of North Star Hat Co
Our maker started creating hats as she began to be more sun safety conscious in her 30’s. With a collection of wide brim, traditional Australian, hats at home but none matched her style when she wore a dress or was going for brunch with the girls.
Kathleen wanted to create a hat that was creative and feminine whilst offering the sun protection she needed. It took over a year to learn how to make the hats and source all the materials. It really is a lost craft and impossible to find someone to teach her. Through A LOT of trial and error and with the help of her partner she made the first hat.
All the tools for hat making are hand made, the wooden blocks are handmade by an artisan in Melbourne and every few months she would save up and buy another size to broaden her collection offerings.
All the hats are made from 100% Australian wool with leather inner sweatbands. The outer bands are a creative mix of hand dyed silk, hand torn linen or a collection of objects found throughout her travels, making each hat unique!
The name North Star came as a representation to ‘following your guiding star’ It is a reminder to stay true to ourselves and follow our own path.
